The Bavarian Forest is part of the largest wooded area in central Europe, often referred to as “the Green Roof of Europe”. An area of outstanding natural beauty, situated in the South East of Germany, on the border with the Czech Republic, close to Austria and the River Danube. The Guesthouse is located halfway between Munich and Prague, which along with Salzburg, Regensburg, Nuremberg and Passau, are less the 3 hours drive away. Enjoy the wonderful scenery of the Bayerischer Wald National Park and the Grosser Arber mountain area. The area is criss-crossed with numerous walking, mountain-biking and cycling trails, and in winter is an excellent place to ski, with both downhill and cross-country skiing well catered for. The area is reknowned for its glassmaking, natural beauty, many festivals and schnapps. (A potent brew. - the local version, “Bärwürz” is made from a root that grows only on Grosser Arber). Our bed & breakfast guest house is located in a relaxed and quiet area above the village of Bayerisch Eisenstein (724m), on the lower slopes of Grosser Arber (1456m). The village of Bayerisch Eisenstein has restaurants, basic shops, local railway museum, the only railway station in Europe shared by 2 countries, (the border runs through the centre of the station building), glassworks, tennis courts, mini golf, and park complete with pond and children’s play ground. Walking, cycling and cross-country ski trails start within 100 metres of the guesthouse.The Bavarian National Park is a few minutes walk from the guesthouse and the Arber mountain ski area and cable car are a few minutes drive away. The cable car operates for most of the year. |
